Welcome to Phase 1.

The first part of this plan is to complete the BSIT with security emphasis along with all the certications. This portion should take about two years, but the actual time will depend on a number of factors. Someone who is super motivated starting out with 75 credits will take less time than someone with either less motivation or has fewer transfered credits. Upon commpleting this phase, most will be able to obtain a junior level Security or Network Administrator position at this point.

In case you were wondering, the certifications included in the BSIT are mandatory and must be passed to successully complete the program.

Last but not least, make sure to get a lab to practice at home. There are several simulators and emmulators that work just fine, but a physical lab always takes the take. I use Cisco Packet Tracert, and GNS3. My favorite is my virtual lab using VMware Professional on my old Lenovo Thinkpad W500 with an I7 processor and a 240 Gig SSD. I keep 3 to 4 Linux servers running, mainly CentOS 6,7, and 8 for different side projects.

Here is what my physical home lab looks like. You're free to come use it whenever you're in the neighorhood after the coronavirus pandemic. My lab is fully virtual now, but I keep physical one fully functional. You can even you use cloud instances for even greater flexibility
